UCONN requires strong SAT-ACT scores

UConn-oldThe University of Connecticut has become an increasingly attractive option to Fairfield County, Connecticut parents and students for two big reasons: (1) UCONN has become a much more desirable college than it was when parents from Connecticut attended/applied and (2) UCONN is a far better value than many private colleges due to its in-state tuition for Connecticut residents.

I love the Spring because we receive notes and letters from parents regarding college admissions. Past students have received admissions letters and many note that the only difference between their admissions and some of their friends’ rejections have been due to SAT scores.

As for UCONN admissions, the number of parents who have sent thank you e-mails has skyrocketed in the last few years.

“I remember you telling me that UCONN was not easy to get into and that test scores would matter greatly…” starts a typical letter. The parent, in this case and many others, had been living in a 1980s college admissions framework.  She had thought UCONN would be her daughter’s “safety” college, a term I don’t like, but I understand is used.  Given her daughter’s PSAT scores, it was quite the opposite.  The daughter would likely not gain admission unless she radically changed her scores.

Fortunately, the daughter went through SAT prep and worked hard outside of class. Her scores dramatically shot up and a year later she is happily sending her deposit to UCONN.
